Every way the wind blows: Olivia’s five key takeaways from the RenewableUK Offshore Wind Conference 2025

It was our Head of Partnerships, Olivia’s, pleasure to attend our friends’ RenewableUK’s Offshore Wind Conference at Excel London last week. Despite the anti-net zero rhetoric that persists from loud voices on social media and from certain political parties, there was a huge amount of factual positivity filling the exhibition hall and conference room about how wind can be an integral part of the transition to cleaner power. That’s why we’re proud to be members of RenewableUK.

Olivia was part of an audience that felt uplifted and inspired by the practical possibilities of offshore wind, as she left the impeccably-organised, seamless event knowing that “Mission Possible” is eminently achievable through connection, collaboration and ambition.

In her own words, here are Olivia’s five key takeaways:

1: “’Mission Possible’ was the overarching theme of the event that echoed through every presentation and panel discussion. It carried with it the ambition and belief that net zero goals are achievable and wind’s vital role, as we looked at how far we have already come and what we need to keep on doing as part of our shared mission.”

2: “Accessible networks bring with them great power to learn more about offshore wind. I joined RenewableUK’s NextGen Network with little experience or knowledge of offshore wind and it gave me a terrific entry-point into the conference. It helped me build connections that carried through the entire two days. You learn so much from speaking to people at events like these, and NextGen made that much easier.”

3: “Ambition and collaboration are the driving force behind the transition to net zero. Several panel discussions outlined how offshore wind is a solution to net zero but also a significant economic growth engine. Ed Milliband highlighted this in his powerful keynote speech, outlining how government leadership paved the way for industry to deliver its collective ambition.”

4: “There is a clarity of vision and purpose for offshore wind’s objectives that is vital both for the source of power and also the drive to net zero across all renewable energy sources. Its guiding principal, or ‘North Star’, is the shared ambition and commitment that is required to unlock the potential creation of jobs and delivery of net zero. Collaboration can also result in creative solutions to reach the government’s trebled offshore wind targets by 2030, while working together to grow the supply chain can avoid bottlenecks which cause delays.”

5: “The driving force for any change will always be people. The positivity I felt in the room was infectious and it was clear that there is a determination within the offshore wind sector for it to be a key component of the drive to net zero that will secure jobs and energy for years to come.”

Renewable energy is one of this government’s most exciting commitments. With the shared vision for collaboration that exists throughout the sector, more conferences like this will be on the agenda as we transition to a lower carbon future – and with the great feeling we took from this event, Olivia and Agent as a whole can’t wait for them.
