Want to keep up to date with what’s happening at Agent Marketing, who we are working with, and generally what is keeping us amused at Agent HQ? You do? Great, well let us introduce you to the Agent blog. It’s Agent Marketing in electronic form; new, innovative and as good as we have always been…

There's something about Mary...

There are very few TV programmes that truly do engage me.

In years gone by, some previous favourites have included Come Dine With Me (which flavoured my new love of cooking), River Cottage (which fuelled by later obsession with all things organic) and of course, The Golden Girls – ok, sad I know, but hey, Blanche was a blast.

That aside, since entering the game of marketing there have been a few programmes that have come along and tickled my taste buds for tactical business improvement. These programmes are not only entertaining but also informative - sad I know for a Monday night in, but hey, everyday is a school day! I speak of shows such as the F-Word and The Hotel Inspector – where gurus go into businesses and do what they do best – make them profitable.

With this in mind, let me introduce Mary Portas – my new idol and favourite TV star. Straight to the point, she knows what she wants to achieve and makes sure that she gets herself and her client there. Mary has got front, not everyone likes her approach, but I certainly do. And following my status update on Facebook the other night – it seems more and more of us have a soft spot for the Retail Queen herself.

Maybe why I love her so is because the show's formula is exactly the same as what we do and how we do it – good old business common sense! Know what your customers want by asking them! Go out and see who else is in the market and learn from them! And most importantly show passion for what you do and how you do it. Always use evidence - it saves you time and money and avoids making you look stupid!

In fact, following another inspirational show last night – I may just don a red-bobbed wig and change my name to Mary. Or maybe that is step to too far? I do have to think about my own customers at the end of the day...
