The Real World Cup
The date, 10th July. The location, The Metquarter. The event, CALM’s World Cup Table Football tournament. The likelihood of winning… decentish to probably not.
The “lads” of Agent Marketing were rather excited about the prospect of becoming world champions and therefore entered two teams to Mr Sepp Blatter himself, Simon Howes of CALM.
So then, Agent Marketing Team 1 consisted of Vish and I. On Agent Marketing Team 2, we had Darren and Guy. Adam was to be the inspirational manager (we hoped).
So after a hard week of intense training, special nutritional diets and the banning of all WAGs (Wikipedia and Games) we felt we had prepared ourselves enough to make an impact in the tournament.
Arriving at the stadium (Metquarter), our fates (teams) were decided. Agent Marketing 1 had drawn the heavy weights of the Far East, Japan. Agent Marketing 2 got the ever sunny, sombrero designing place everyone should visit, Mexico.
We could then begin our pre-match warm up consisting of consuming beer and cocktails provided by Revolution Bar and indulging in energy food such as burgers and hotdogs.
In the groups stages Japan started off very slow losing the first game and the luckily winning the second from a last minute 40cm screamer. Saving the best till last, Japan racked up a comfortable 14 – 0 win.
Mexico won all three games of their games (one being forfeited by a no show from our Gallic competitors; France). With some truly amazing spinning play, they were cast as potential contenders for the tournament.
However, the glory was short lived as both Agent Marketing teams were knocked out in the last 16. The victors of these matches though went on to the final; I suppose that’s a bit of consolation.
A big thank you to every involved on the night, a brilliant time was had by all. Get in touch with the CALM posse to find out about the continuous great work they do and what amazing events they are planning next http://www.thecalmzone.net/.
