Feeder la revolución

I heard a very interesting fact the other day. Well, when I say interesting I really mean shocking!
60% of adults in the UK DON’T COOK!
Now, being the Agent Butcher, an avid food fan and one who has been brought up on fresh food that is freshly cooked I couldn’t get my head around this. I’ve got friends who work for some great schemes that are trying to combat childhood obesity by pushing the message of fresh food and active lifestyles, but what have the grown ups got?
How are we being proactively communicated to about how easy cooking really is? How are we being told how much money we can save? How can we find out how much better tasting and better for your health a home made curry can be, rather than stumbling into a takeaway for a cheeky mid-week treat? It seems all we get to hear about from the press is a Mickey Mouse research paper that tells us what was once good for you is now bad, those vitamins you used to take will now make you shrink and if you sit outside your house eating a sandwich on the third Thursday of June at 2pm you’re a gonner!
Ok, I’m being a little farcical with those last points but really… is there any truth behind this staggering statistic? Well it would appear so from the entire 10 minutes of research I did before writing this there is little out there to counter it. So leading off from this spate of utter distress I am SO happy there is a little place in the Matchworks in Speke that will go through the ins and outs of cooking from scratch. Ladies and gentleman, I am a Can Cook culinary combatant!
Me and my fellow Agents Paul, Emma, Clare and Tom went there on Tuesday for a little cook off, where we were taught how do a Thai Green Chicken Curry from scratch. Yum! Tony, one of the Can Cook chefs went through the whole process before sending us little chefs off to our work stations to cook up a storm. Tummy rumbling! All of 20 minutes later we were sat down with a glass of wine scoffing what was, a truly amazing plate deliciousness. Nom nom nom!
What I found really inspiring from the whole experience was how passionate the guys at Can Cook are about what they do and why they are doing it. You can’t help but get drawn into the brand and fall in love with everything they stand for as well as be inspired by the skills you don’t realise you are learning. The best part of the whole night for me, I now Can Cook rice! Before heading to over to Can Cook Studios it was either dry and overcooked or like a gloopy mess that had the consistency of porridge. Not anymore!
I’m heading back up north to see my folks for the bank holiday weekend, where not only will I be putting my new found skills into practice, I’m passing on the message of Can Cook and booking both of them onto a course. I wholeheartedly encourage anyone to give them a go. I promise, once tried you too will join the culinary coup d’états. Viva la revolución!
